I Stand All Amazed

http://primarynotes29.blogspot.com/2014/02/simple-asl-for-i-stand-all-amazed.html

To help them understand the words I asked what amazed meant. Then after it was defined we all made an amazed face. It was fun to see. Then we sang the 1st line and I talked about it. Then I asked about confused and we did confused faces. Then I explained what grace and proffer mean and we sang the second line. Then I asked what tremble means and we all trembled and I explained the 3rd line and 4th lines. We sang all four. Then I asked them what they thought was wonderful. Then I explained that what Jesus did was so wonderful that we say that word a lot in this song. As we sang the chorus I had them count how many times we said wonderful. Anyway, it made it fun and explained some of the vocabulary but still conveyed the message of the song. Everyone enjoyed it!

I Stand All Amazed
Hymn 193

Message
 Even though I make mistakes, Jesus loves me. He died so I can repent and try to be
better. This is a wonderful gift.

Materials needed:
 Picture of Jesus on the Cross (GAK #230).
 Even rhythm chart & bouncy rhythm chart (see page 2 & 3 respectively)
 Flip Chart for the song (posted by Candace Atwood on LDS Primary Choristers Facebook page on 1/28/2014)

First Line
 What does amazed mean?
 Can you make an amazed face? Let me see it….
 Sing the first line of the song
Second Line
 What does confused mean?
 Can you make a confused face? Let me see it….
 Explain what grace means (The love we all receive from Heavenly Father, even though we all make mistakes)
 Explain what proffers means (To offer someone something they must accept in order to receive it)
 Heavenly Father loves us so much and he knows we will make mistakes. He has offered
us a way to be forgiven when we make these mistakes, but we must be willing to repent.
(talk about this more a little later in the song).
 Sing the second line of the song
Third & Fourth Lines
 What does tremble mean?
 What does it look like when we tremble? Let me see it….
 Display a picture of Christ on the cross from the Gospel Art Kit/Book.
 How does this picture make you feel? (look for answers like; thankful, reverent, or even sad)
 Sing the third & fourth lines.
 Explain that Jesus gave his life for us so we all could return to Heavenly Father someday.
Jesus’ sacrifice for us means that we can repent when we make mistakes & that is the
wonderful part!
Chorus
 Listen to me as I sing the chorus. How many times to I sing the word wonderful? (3)
 Now, listen to me again as I sing the chorus again & this time listen to the rhythm. Clap
with me, and notice if there are any changes in the clapping.
 Did you notice the bouncy words? (1st
wonderful, care for me, & die for me)
 This song uses an even rhythm, this is what the notes look like. (show rhythm card #1)
 And a bouncy rhythm, this is what the notes look like. (show rhythm card #2)
 Let’s sing the chorus together while we clap the rhythm with help from our rhythm cards.
 Sing the chorus together.
Review first verse
 Use the flipchart like a story book, singing the story together.

November ideas

Thanksgiving Primary singing time:  Every November I bring my turkey I drew (and had laminated) and then I write each child's name on a construction paper feather and stick them all around his body in the Primary room.  Then I blindfold a child and they come draw a name off the chart.  All of the kids go crazy as they see the blindfolded child get close to their name.  The child's name who got drawn could either be your helper in the next song or you could sing their favorite song or anything else you could think of!

Here's another Turkey idea:

Program Review Games

Get the bugs out http://basicprimarymusic.blogspot.com/2011/09/get-bugs-out.html
I did this activity last week and it was a hit.  However, I changed it and taped one bug onto a balloon for each song.  After we sang the song and perfected the problems I chose a child to come swat the balloon with a fly swatter with a pin taped to it.

Exploding cups: http://singingmagic.blogspot.com/2012/05/erupting-cups-singing-time-review-game.html

The pom pom game is my primary kids' favorite game EVER.
Take three identical plastic cups (not see-through) and one pom pom. Put the cups
upside down on the table - the pom pom under one of the cups. Move the cups
around like a magician, trying to make it so the kids don't know where the
pom pom is. When you stop moving the cups, call on one of the kids to guess
which cup is hiding the pom pom. If they guess correctly, the child gets to
choose the next song to sing. If they don't get it, the chorister gets to
choose the song to sing. I use it when we have only a couple of minutes left
or when I need an emergency sub lesson because I've had to call someone last
minute (you can use paper cups from the kitchen and a wad of paper if you're
desperate)

Back to School Singing Time

Back to school signing time:
I brought all of these things in a backpack and they got to draw one out.  We've used it for the last few weeks because we didn't make it through all of the items on the Sunday before school started.
